Germany: Hot Slaw

I'm sure this won't be my only post on Germany... I have a love for German food that cannot be adequately described in words. I love when vinegar, apple, or cabbage are involved... but all three at once? And then add BACON? Heaven.
What you'll need:

6 slices thick cut bacon
1 tbsp. brown sugar
3 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. caraway seeds
3 cups green cabbage, shredded
1 apple, peeled and grated
Salt to taste

Step 1: Cook bacon in a large pan until crispy. Turn off heat. Remove from pan and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the pan.
Step 2: Add brown sugar, vinegar, caraway seeds, a dash of salt, and a splash of water to the same pan with bacon fat. Bring to a boil.
Step 3: Add cabbage and grated apple. Reduce heat.
Step 4: Simmer for about 4 minutes to blend flavors. Cabbage should be slightly cooked, but still crisp.
Step 5: Crumble the bacon, sprinkle on top, and serve! Get it while it's hot!

  1. i don't even like caraway seeds and I would eat this. My great grandparents were Austrian. If you ever make spetzle, you tell me.
