Germany: Glühwein

My German friend Dustin introduced me to mulled wine at a Christmas party a few years back. Since then, this has been one of my winter staples. Wine already makes you feel warm and cozy, but what about hot wine? And what about hot wine with Christmas spices? Consume while wearing slippers with Christmas music playing for maximum effect.
Serves 4

Ingredients:

1 750 ml bottle of red wine (any non-sweet kind will do!)
1/3 cup brandy (you can substitute vodka in a pinch)
1 orange, sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 inch ginger root, chopped
10 cloves
5 cinnamon sticks

Step 1: Mix all ingredients together in a pot and stir.
Step 2: Cook on low heat for at least 20 minutes to warm and blend flavors. Stir occasionally and make sure it doesn't boil!
